Katana was one of over 300 boats and thirteen GL52s ready to take on the 333-mile journey to Mackinac Island. The start was a wet, rainy mess, but the true test came when the wind died. For most of the race, we fought against light winds, a continuous battle to keep our speed up. We navigated the difficult conditions, relied on each other, and completed one of the most challenging races out there.
After an elapsed time of 1 day, 16 hours, 21 minutes, and 44 seconds, Katana crossed the finish line at 6:11 AM Monday morning. While the 6th place outcome wasn’t what we hoped for, we’re ready to get back on the water for the next race!
